District judges stress on no compromise over LHC’s dignity

Say strict action must be taken against LHCBA Multan president for misbehaving with judge

LAHORE: The district judiciary seemed on the same page over the recent tussle that erupted between the bar and the bench after a lawyer misbehaved with Lahore High Court judge Muhammad Qasim Khan in Multan.

The judges said there would be no compromise over the respect and dignity of the institution. They said district and sessions judges were on the same page and expressed their complete confidence over the steps taken by the LHC over the issue in a meeting held at the Punjab Judicial Academy.

The judges said they stood beside LHC Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, adding only one percent of lawyers were against the justice system They urged strict action against Advocate Sher Zaman president from the LHCBA’s Multan chapter, adding contempt proceedings against him must be disposed of in accordance with the law.

An ‘action committee’ has also been formed and consists of six senior session judges of Punjab. It is worth mentioning that on July 24, LHCBA Multan President Sher Zaman Qureshi, Syed Qaiser Abbas Kazmi and other lawyers vandalised and ransacked the court of Justice Muhammad Qasim Khan in Multan. They had also torn off a plaque with the judge’s name on it.

After the incident, the LHC CJ withdrew judges from the Multan Bench of the Lahore High Court by exercising his constitutional powers. Subsequently, a five-member bench comprising LHC chief justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, Justice Muhammad Anwarul Haq, Justice Syed Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi, Justice Muhammad Ameer Bhatti and Justice Shams Mahmood Mirza started contempt of court proceedings against the hooliganism of the LHCBA Multan president.
