Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) disgruntled lawmaker Ziaullah Afridi announced on Monday that he was joining the Pakistan People's Party (PPP).

Afridi made the announcement at Zardari House in Islamabad following a meeting with PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari.

Afridi said Zardari had given identity to the Pashtun people (by giving the province its name Khyber-Pakhtunkwa), devolved powers to the provinces and also delivered the National Finance Commission award.

"Asif Zardari's vision will bring prosperity to Pakistan. More PTI members will join the PPP in the coming days," he added.

Zardari welcomed Afridi's inclusion in the PPP and said the party would grow stronger under the leadership of his son and chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

Also present on the occasion were PPP K-P President Humayun Khan and General Secretary Faisal Karim Kundi.

Three days ago, Afridi had submitted an adjournment motion in the provincial assembly, asking the K-P Ehtesab Commission to take action against the incumbent government’s corruption.

Afridi submitted the adjournment motion at the assembly secretariat on Friday in which he accused K-P Chief Minister Pervez Khattak of illegally appointing Akbar Ayub as the chief executive officer of the Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organisation.

The MPA added that Ayub, who was sacked from his post on Thursday, was illegally appointed on the reference of PTI central leader Asad Umar despite lacking the qualification to fill the post.

Afridi, a former provincial mines and mineral minister, had also accused PTI chief Imran Khan of trying to protect CM Khattak who he claimed was involved in illegal hiring at the Bank of Khyber.

He maintained that Jamaat-e-Islami chief Sirajul Haq had also illegally appointed bank employees when the latter was the K-P finance minister.
