PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) disgruntled lawmaker Ziaullah Afridi has submitted an adjournment motion in the provincial assembly, asking the K-P Ehtesab Commission to take action against the incumbent government’s corruption.

Afridi submitted the adjournment motion at the assembly secretariat on Friday in which he has accused K-P Chief Minister Pervez Khattak of illegally appointing Akbar Ayub as the chief executive officer of the Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organisation (PEDO).

The MPA added that Ayub—who was sacked from his post on Thursday—was illegally appointed on the reference of PTI central leader Asad Umar despite lacking the qualification to fill the post.

“The post [PEDO CEO] was technical but despite it an inappropriate person was recruited on it through the reference of PTI’s central leader Asad Umar,” Afridi stated in the motion. He added that illegal recruitments have been made in PEDO and Ayub’s poor planning has caused losses worth billions of rupees which was an injustice to the province’s people.

The lawmaker has alleged that CM Khattak gave approval to Ayub’s appointment which was beyond has legal authority. He added that Khattak’s move to appoint Ayub is an offence under section 23 and 24 of the K-P Ehtesab Commission Act 2014 but the commission is yet to take action. He has also asked the K-P assembly to direct the K-P Ehtesab Commision to take action against Khattak, Ayub and others involved in corruption.

Afridi has also asked Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Sirajul Haq to join him in his fight against corruption from K-P.
