TDF Ghar

KARACHI: Recently, an almost century-old Haveli was refurnished, decorated and re-opened for the art and culture lovers in Karachi to delve into the rich past of the city. Located in Jamshed Quarters, the house in its glorious days has been an insightful dwelling to various religious communities including Hindus and Parsis, which is reminiscent of the ethnic and religious diversity the city once had.

Karachi, once home to various social, literary arrangements had been facing problems following General Zia’s authoritarian rule and Islamisation. However, with improved security conditions in the metropolis, many places have been opened in the city solely to nurture the progress of literature, art and culture. The Second Floor, popularly known as T2F, and now the TDF Ghar (The Dawood Foundation Ghar) are some prominent places offering Karachiites a good public place along with a variety of other social engagements, like dance and poetry sessions, at a nominal cost.

The TDF has been restored to its original form with its Iranian café-style infrastructure and design. The space is open to public and undoubtedly a leap forward towards the revival of art and cultural centres in the city.
