Apple’s anniversary edition iPhone is just months away from the release and is expected to be packed with bunch of new and exciting features.

However, one of the biggest features of the upcoming iPhone would not be something new but one of the best ideas by its biggest rival that Apple has perfected.

According to a number of reports, the predominant feature of the upcoming iPhone 8 will be its ability to unlock using facial recognition.

The feature is being referred to as the iPhone's 'crown jewel', regarded as one of the most innovative features ever introduced, the Bloomberg reported.

While the facial recognition is not something entirely new, but what sets iPhone 8’s 3D facial recognition feature apart from its rivals is the ability to recognise its owner in “millionths of a second”.

Rumours about Apple's facial recognition feature have been circulating for months and it was finally confirmed when the leaked iPhone code made its way online.

Leak confirms iPhone 8 bezel-less design

However, a cause of concern remained about how the technology would work and perform, as previously there have been bad experiences with similar features.

But new reports suggest that the facial recognition feature will be incredibly fast along with being secure and accurate when it comes to recognising its owner's face.

“The new facial recognition scanner with 3-D sensors can deeply sense a user’s face in the millionths of a second,” claimed Korea Herald.

The reports claim the iPhone 8 will also come with an infrared sensor that will give the phone in-the-dark facial recognition ability, meaning that users will be able to unlock the device even in the dark using facial recognition feature. Further, the phone will also be able to assess faces while it is lying flat on a table.

Added improvements to the feature mean that the company will use it as a unique selling point for its upcoming phone. Apple is also likely to focus on other updates such as its improved screen technology.

iPhone 7 costs more to make than any other iPhone

The feature is also required because of the bezel-less design of the phone. The iPhone 8 will have very thin bezel at the bottom of the handset which also means that there is no place for the TouchID fingerprint sensors which previous iPhones have had.

While it remains hard to determine how Apple will market and sell the upcoming iPhone, rumours are also surrounding as to how Apple will name the product, something the company is yet to decide.
