Congo virus threat

Letter August 23, 2017
To avoid the disease, the local governments must strictly monitor vaccination of cattle transported to cities

KARACHI: Last year, the outbreak of the Congo epidemic during the days leading up to Eidul Azha, took 28 lives within the country. This time around the government should take precautionary measures at the initial stages so that any possibility of the spread of the disease can be entirely eliminated.

As of 2017, 11 cases of the virus have already been reported in the country which might increase with the markets for sacrificial animals being set up across the country. To effectively deal with the possible outbreak of the disease, the local governments must strictly monitor vaccination of cattle transported to cities and any negligence on the part of the cattle owners should be strictly dealt with.
