KARACHI: Cleaning of drainage pipes comes under the jurisdiction of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC).  However, keeping the welfare of public in view, District Municipal Corporation (DMC) Malir is utilising its funds to clean the drainage pipes.

DMC Malir Chairperson Jan Muhammad Baloch said this while surveying work in progress at UC 9, Sharafi Goth on Monday. Blockade in the drainage pipes causes water to flood streets which badly affects roads and other developmental projects, he said, adding that the stagnant water on roads also help mosquitos breed, which eventually results in outbreak of diseases like dengue.

Baloch was accompanied by vice-chairperson Abdul Khaliq Marwat, Municipal Commissioner Imran Aslam, Cleanliness Committee Chairperson Liaquat Ali Baloch, Administrative Committee Chairperson Irshad Ali Shar, UC Chairman Amin Mana, Solid Waste Director Waiq Zafar, Information Director Saleem Khan and other officials.

Ditches on streets can cause any unfortunate incident especially when the streets are inundated after rains, said the DMC Malir chairperson. He asked the relevant officers to make sure that roads and streets in Malir are repaired. He ordered the relevant officers to continue the work without any delay.  All roads in the UC must be levelled so that smooth flow of traffic can be ensured, he said.
