The child constantly pleading the mother to stop followed by the slaps and the expressions on the face - that of anger and frustration as well as helplessness - compelled many Facebook and Twitter users to speak out on the issue of child abuse, even if it's at the hands of someone as close as the child's mother.
10% increase in child abuse cases in Pakistan
Social media users both in Pakistan and India vented out their feelings after watching the video. Many say that hitting children to make them study can psychologically dent them for life. However, some social media groups as shared the video labelling it "funny", indifferent to the horror being suffered by the child.
