KARACHI:

Four alleged kidnappers were remanded into the custody of the CID till April 25 by Justice Maqbool Baqar, Administrative Judge (AJ) for Anti-Terrorism Courts (ATCs), Karachi division on Tuesday.

The four men, Jehangir Khan, Said Alam, Aamir Khan and Ajmal Khan, are allegedly members of the Awami National Party (ANP). They were caught red-handed when their hostage, and complainant, Naimat Ali, called the Madadgar 15 police from his cell phone, which he had managed to hide. The kidnappers had earlier snatched his other cell phone and Rs15,000 from him.

Ali said that he was kept in a flat located within the jurisdiction of Sachal police. The arrested men had six accomplices. The kidnappers were very young and according to Ali he “must be as old as their father but they still misbehaved with [him]”. They demanded a million rupees in ransom and kept “pressing for the money”. The police was tipped off by an informer, after which they raided the place and rescued Ali. They arrested the four kidnappers and also seized two TT pistols from them.

‘Extortionists’ remanded

AJ Baqar also remanded two accused, Amjad alias Baba and Sultan, who were accused of extortion. They allegedly demanded Rs15,000 from complainant Shahid Nisar. Initially, they asked for Rs0.5 million, but later the demand was lowered.

The complainant informed the Darakhshan police, who arrested the accused and recovered the complainant’s money. They had demanded extortion in the name of the notorious Baba Ladla of Lyari.
