Zardari rules out cooperation with Sharif

Says PPP won’t support constitutional amendment

LAHORE: Pakistan Peoples Party Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari refused on Wednesday to join hands with former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and ruled out cooperation with him.

He made the announcement while speaking to PPP’s senior leadership at Bilawal House. He was also critical of the PPP being part of the ‘grand national dialogue’ between the political parties proposed by the former prime minister during his recent rally. He was of the opinion that the priorities of Sharif varied from when he was in and out of power.



In this light, he also pointed out that the deposed prime minister had been uninterested in the ramifications of articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution while in power, but now that he has been removed from the role, he is a fervent supporter of the need for constitutional amendments.

He indicated that it was not the threat to democracy, but to Sharif’s career that drove him. The general political scenario and the future role of the PPP were also major points of discussion. Party officials also indicated the PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari was also expected to reach the provincial capital Thursday night.
