Obama's anti-racism tweet becomes most liked in history of Twitter

Previously, most liked tweet was Ariana Grande’s following bombing in England

Barack Obama’s anti-racism tweet, in response to the far right rally in Charlottesville has become the most liked tweet in the history of Twitter.

“No one is born hating another person because of the colour of his skin or his background or his religion,” said Obama while tweeting a quote from Nelson Mandela’s 1994 autobiography.

The first tweet with an image of young children looking down at Obama received two million likes. This picture was taken at a day care facility by photographer Pete Souza in 2011.


“People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than it’s opposite,” he added.

Previously, the most liked post on Twitter was Ariana Grande’s tweet following the bombing in England. However, Obama’s post Charlottesville tweet knocked out the iconic Oscar selfie from second place, according to online service Favstar which tracks Twitter usage.

Far right protestors burnt torches, wore Nazi and other white supremacist regalia marching in Charlottesville. The protest turned violent and ended up killing civil rights activist Heather Heyer when a man drove his car into the crowd.
