Rangers deployed in Sindh during sixth national census

Rangers are deployed in sensitive areas of Sindh to ensure security of the census staff.

KARACHI:
Rangers were deployed in all sensitive areas of Sindh province on Tuesday during the first phase of Sixth National Census to ensure security to its staff.

Speaking to the media in Karachi, Census Commissioner of Sindh Noor Leghari said that complaints of political interference were received from sensitive areas.

He also said that the staff is facing problems in cities including Karachi, Hyderabad and Shikarpur.

Leghari said an important decision will be taken in a special meeting which be held on Wednesday in Karachi.

The second phase of the population count would start in August and the collected data would not be shared with any organisation.

Three government employees killed in Karachi


Two employees of the Karachi Water & Sewerage Board (KWSB) and one of the Fire Department were shot dead in the Mehmoodabad area of Karachi on Tuesday.

Express 24/7 correspondent Shehryar Mirza reported that the three men were collecting data for the ongoing census when unidentified men on motorcycles shot them.

Two of the men were residents of Mehmoodabad and one of them belonged to Shurjani. The bodies have been shifted to Jinnah Hospital.

Violence continues

Five people have been shot dead in the city in the last 24 hours.

Unidentified motorcyclists opened fire on a hotel in the Pehlwan Goth area, killing a 25-year-old man and injuring another youth.

In a separate incident, three political activists and a woman were killed in a drive-by shooting. Mohajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi (Afaq group) vice-chairman Akhtar Hussain and four MQM-H activists were returning from Central Jail Karachi after visiting party leader Afaq Ahmed when four armed men on motorcycles intercepted them on Tariq Road and opened fire at them. Hussain and another activist were in a Suzuki Cultus, registration number APH-253, while two other workers were on a motorcycle just behind them.
