LAHORE: As the nation prepares to celebrate its 70th Independence Day, Lahore police have braced itself to provide security to vulnerable establishments, celebrations, stop eve-teasing and one-wheeling on the occasion.

It is just a day after the hectic week for police owing to Nawaz Sharif’s rally in Punjab, the department has prepared a comprehensive plan to ensure that no untoward incident takes place on the day.

Elaborate security plan chalked out for capital

According to the security plan devised for the day, divisional SPs have been directed to prepare list of vulnerable establishments especially parks, educational institutions, restaurants, venues of Independence Day celebrations and other points of public gathering, divide these into category A, B and C according to their sensitivity and provide security to them.

The important celebrations included ceremony of Change of Guards at Allama Iqbal’s tomb, flag-hoisting ceremonies at Town Hall, WAPDA House and other parts of the city.

Besides providing security, Lahore police are facing the challenge to deal with harassment, one-wheeling and rash-driving as disgruntled youth would start pouring in hundreds and thousands on the streets of the city as the clock would strike 12:00 on August 14. Moving in groups from one road to another, racing, one-wheeling and eve-teasing become their utmost enjoyment.

Independence Day preparations in full swing

In view of surge in accidents due to this hooliganism, police department is taking special measures to deal with the situation. City Traffic Police Lahore have launched a massive crackdown against under-age driving, one-wheeling and rash driving since the beginning of the August. The move was meant to discourage youth on August 14 from their nuisance activities.

Police have devised a plan according to which anti-one wheeling squad of City Traffic Police along with Dolphin Squad, Police Response Unit and area police would form pickets on all major roads and chowks, launching crackdown against such elements.
