Celebrity shenanigans

Letter August 13, 2017
As public, we should abstain from being downright disrespectful

GUJRANWALA: During the olden days, celebrities were primarily known for their work and work-related achievements. However, applause and praise for work seems to be the phenomenon of a bygone era. Through numerous social media apps, nowadays, the public knows a little too much about the life of their favourite celebrities.

As not every update is equivalent to news, celebrities too seem to fall short on tactics to keep their fans engaged and abuzz. As a result, they come up with different ways to stay relevant and in the ‘news’. Most recent in this league is the trend of celebrity couples announcing their splits and divorces on social media. In some cases the news of their split is then followed by a reconciliation announcement on social media.

Recent instances of announcements of splits between celebrity couples on social media that stirred up quite frenzy were boxer Amir Khan and his wife Faryal Makhdoom, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie and Chris Pratt and Anna Faris. Although these announcements mostly demand respect and privacy from the media and the public, they are often met with nasty comments and news stories. It should be understood that irrespective of celebrities putting up their own lives for show, as public we should abstain from being downright disrespectful.
