COAS visits family of major martyred in Dir

No threat can deter the resolve of a nation which is united, resilient and honours its heroes, he said

Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa and his wife visited the family of the late Major Ali Salman, who was martyred during an operation in Timergara, Dir on August 9.

The army chief met with the fallen soldier's family in Lahore on Saturday and said the major had made the nation proud [by embracing martyrdom].

"We shall restore peace and rule of law, whatever sacrifices it may cost," the Inter-Services Public Relations quoted the army chief as saying. "No threat can deter the resolve of a nation which is united, resilient and honours its heroes."


Four military men martyred in Upper Dir raid

Major Salman was leading an intelligence-based operation (IBO) against terrorists in the Sherotkai area of Timergara on August 9  when a suicide bomber blew himself up during the raid. Salman and three other soldiers were martyred.

Later in the day, the COAS also visited family of late Brigadier Muhammad Hasnain who lost his life en route to operational area of South Wazirstan in a road accident. Lahore corps commander accompanied the COAS.
