High-definition CCTV cameras

KARACHI: The city of Karachi has seen its share of mobile phone snatchings and bank robberies over the years. Footage gleaned from CCTV systems is regularly shared on Facebook and WhatsApp. But for the most part these closed circuit TV cameras succeed in capturing blurry images of phone snatchers and robbers. Bikes are also visible in these video images but the number plates are not visible.

If high-definition CCTV cameras are installed on streets, it will be very easy to identify the faces of snatchers and robbers and also the number plates of motorcycles. But perhaps that Sindh government will not install high definition CCTV cameras. Installation of these cameras is very easy otherwise.

However the State Bank of Pakistan can order all private banks to install high definition CCTV cameras in which faces and objects are recognisable. It will then become easier for law-enforcement agencies to catch these culprits.

High-definition CCTV cameras in city can solve many problems. Safe City Project is very important for Karachi like Islamabad.

However, it is also common that when mobile snatchers are caught they are freed and after few months they resume their criminal activities.
