A Water and Sanitary Agency (Wasa) spokesperson said the body of Piran Ghain resident Akram, 35, was pulled out of the debris by rescuers with the help of heavy machinery two hours after the incident.
Another labourer, Sajjad, was rescued and shifted to hospital in critical condition.
Wasa managing director Chaudhry Mohammad Shamim has deputed deputy director P&D Mohammad Shahid Saleem for an inquiry into the incident.
The labourers were busy at work when the sewerage lines collapsed and fell on them despite the fact that wooden ladders were set up to support the soil.
