Legal fraternity condemns hooliganism of lawyers

Says it is need of the hour to stop such elements from disgracing a noble profession

LAHORE: A group of lawyers on Wednesday strongly condemned an incident in which some lawyers of Multan allegedly attacked courtroom of Justice Muhammad Qasim Khan at the Lahore High Court (LHC) Multan Bench and resorted to hooliganism.

In an informal meeting held at a local hotel, over 500 lawyers – including Advocate Faisal Naqvi, Shahzeb Masaud, Barrister Salman Akram Raja and Mansoor Usman Awan – vowed to counter such behaviour of lawyers whom they called non-professional.

Addressing the participants, Advocate Naqvi said a black coat did not grant one the permission to attack judges or be disrespectful to them. “It is need of the hour to stop such elements who are locking down courtrooms and disgracing a noble profession,” he added.

On the occasion, the lawyers unanimously resolved that learned and professional lawyers should come forward to save judiciary from non-professionals, adding that otherwise the entire judicial system would collapse.

They called for upholding the supremacy of law, saying that who would comply with the court orders if the lawyers themselves were not ready to surrender before the courts. They also decided to attend proceedings of the case which is scheduled for August 11 (tomorrow).
