No compromise on ‘character’, Gulalai tells lawmakers

In a veiled reference to Imran, the MNA says nation should only give worth to personalities with strong character

A week after announcing to part ways with Imran Khan-led Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), MNA Ayesha Gulalai took the floor of lower house of parliament on Monday, saying there should be no compromise on one's character.

"It is incumbent upon a [woman] MNA to uphold the integrity of a nation's women: mothers and sisters," Gulalai said. "I will continue to render my duties as a woman lawmaker."

On August 1, Gulalai accused PTI chief and his 'gang' of sending lewd text messages to women workers, saying they were constantly harassed within the party.



According to the disgruntled lawmaker, victims of harassment in Pakistan were not listened to unless they commit suicide or take a similar adverse step to get themselves noticed.

"Imran is no God," Gulalai said, adding: "We should not give personalities or personal interests any worth; what a nation should actually value and give worth to, is an untainted character."

She lamented that the country’s youths were being trained to avenge exit of party’s members. “Trend has been set to target anyone who has parted ways with the PTI.”



“A social media brigade attacks anyone, who decides to leave the party, with severe threats,” Gulalai added.

According to the PTI estranged minister, not only she was attacked by those seeking revenge, but her sister Maria Toorpakai Wazir, a national squash player, was targeted by the PTI.

Gulalai questioned as to why the PTI does not start process of accountability in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. “Any nation which compromises on its character is unable to save itself from a sharp moral decadence,” she maintained.
