Woman, grandson die in roof collapse

SHABQADAR: A woman and her 20-year-old grandson died while the woman’s 12-year-old granddaughter was injured in a roof collapse early Sunday morning. Their house was damaged by relentless rains over the past weeks.

According to police officials, the incident occurred in Rashakai in Shabqadar.

They said that the roof of Aurangzeeb Khan’s mud house collapsed and his wife, Raweeda, his grandson Saeedullah Khan were killed in the roof cave-in.

Saeedullah’s 12-year-old sister Fauzia was critically injured.

Rescue efforts mounted by local people cleared the debris and recovered the bodies of the deceased and also the injured girl.



The girl was shifted to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Shabqadar.

The entire area is under night curfew because of adverse law and order situation.

Meanwhile, residents of Ghaziabad in Shabqadar Bazar announced they will stage a protest in front of the CM House in Peshawar against the district government’s negligence in starting flood relief work.

Residents of Ghaziabad, led by tehsil council member Maulana Rehmanullah, also held a press conference and accused the district government officials, additional assistant commissioner of Shabqadar, TMA officials and PTI’s tehsil and district officials of ignoring the area.

They said that rainwater was still inundating various areas in Shabqadar and most people were still living away from their own houses because most had been badly damaged by rains.

He said that they had drained rainwater from a few areas themselves and no government functionary had come forward to help them in this effort.



According to him, their area was not only shunned by government officials, it was also being ignored by NGOs.

They said that they had been protesting for the past week without any response from the provincial government.

Ghaziabad, he said, was hit by floods twice because of mismanagement by officials of TMA and the irrigation department.

Meanwhile, Al Khidmat Foundation, Charsadda, distributed food packages among 100 families in the affected areas and opened a medical camp in Shabqadar.
