Abducted boy recovered, five 'kidnappers' caught

Suspects are accused of kidnapping the minor boy from Orangi on July 29

The Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC), in a joint venture with the Citizens Police Liaison Committee (CPLC), busted a gang of suspected kidnappers allegedly involved in the abduction of a minor boy, who was recovered during the raid.

Eight-year-old Bilal was kidnapped by a group of kidnappers on July 29 from Orangi, within the limits of Pirabad police station. The boy was abducted when he left his home to buy sweets from a shop.

The suspects took him to an undisclosed location and phoned his family, demanding ransom money of Rs1 million. They warned the boy's family of dire consequences if they informed the police or delayed payment of ransom.

Police clueless about kidnapped child

However, the family informed the police about the kidnapping. The police registered a case at the Pirabad police station, but the case was later transferred to the anti-kidnapping cell of the Karachi police - the AVCC.

Addressing a press conference, Criminal Investigation Agency Chief DIG Dr Jameel Ahmed said the AVCC police, in collaboration with the CPLC, started their investigation to trace the whereabouts of the kidnapped child. A special team comprising officials of the AVCC and CPLC was also formed and finally the team managed to trace the hideout of the kidnappers, he claimed.


The team raided their hideout, which was a house in Mominabad area in Orangi Town, arrested the five suspected kidnappers and recovered the boy. The police also claimed to have seized a pistol and the mobile phone that the suspects used to call the family to demand the ransom money from their possession. Cases against them were registered, while further investigation is under way.

 Rangers conduct raids

The paramilitary force claimed on Thursday to have arrested seven suspects, including alleged militants belonging to political parties, during separate raids in the city.

According to Rangers spokesperson, three suspects were arrested during raids in Gulberg and Rizvia localities. The accused were identified as Saleem, Saad Khan and Faisal. The spokesperson said the arrested suspects belonged to Muttahida Qaumi Movement - London and were allegedly involved in various cases of targeted killings, extortion and drug peddling.

The Rangers also arrested three more suspects, identified as Waheed Murad, Adnan and Nasarullah. According to the spokesperson, this was a three-member gang of robbers, who were involved in house robberies. They were arrested during a raid in Korangi neighbourhood.

An alleged street criminal, identified as Ayaz, was arrested during a raid in Mobina Town area. Arms and ammunition were seized from his possession.
