PESHAWAR: Heavy downpour on Sunday halted most of the fixtures of the ongoing 30th Chief of Air Staff Tennis Championship here at PAF Office Mess Courts, with only a match each of Under-14 and Under-18 played.

Due to rain right from the early morning, organisers shifted the matches from the grass courts of PAF Officer Mess to the hard court of Qayyum Sports Complex, but continuing rain stopped play there too.

Two matches of the main round were disrupted as Pakistan number 1 and top seed Championship Aqeel Khan and Aftab Anwar were asked by the referee to stop their tie.

Aqeel had won the first set 6-1, while the second match played between Hamidul Haq and Sikander Hayat was also called off by the referee Inayat Ullah due to the heavy downpour.

Hamid won the first set 6-2. Both matches were rescheduled, event in-charge Wakeel Khan told APP.

If the rain continues on Monday, the matches would be shifted to the hard courts of Qayyum Sports Complex and Civil Services Mess Courts, he added.
