KARACHI:
A man who bought an 11-year-old girl and married her in Umerkot, Sindh has been arrested along with his and the child's father.
They were presented before a judicial magistrate on Tuesday.
The mother of Ahmed Aresar, 33, told the police that they had bought the girl for Rs130,000 from her parents. She added that they were unaware of the child marriage law.
The police booked Aresar, his father, the girl’s father, and the nikah khuwan (marriage registrar).

Earlier, the families and the nikah khawan had escaped. But the police took the Aresar and the girl into custody when they leaving their village after the wedding.
Umerkot SHO Vijay Kumar told The Express Tribune that an FIR 72/2017 had been registered under sections 3, 4 and 5 of Child Marriage Act 2014.
The nikah was solemnised on July 18 and then the rukhsati was held on July 24 at the girl's home in Bakhtawar Colony, Umerkot, he added.
