Cases registered against 49 PPP workers for leading anti-government rally

Protesters were warned earlier but did not pay heed to notice given by officials

MULTAN: City Police Pakpattan has registered a First Information Report (FIR) against 49 workers of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) for leading an anti-government rally. The names of district President PPP Humayun Sarwar Bodla and General Secretary PPP Shaukat Bajwa are also included in the FIR.

According to police officials, all kinds of rallies against the government are banned and the case has been registered under section 188, 283, 16 of Maintenance of Public Ordinance (MPO) and section 6 of the Sound System Regulation Act 2015.



The FIR states that in disobedience of the law, workers of PPP took out an anti-government rally from Matchli Chowk to Chowk Chatti Qabar opposite the shrine of Baba Fareed Ganj Shakar. The protesters, it continues, were on foot and a few were on motorbikes.

They have been charged with violation of section 144 which has been imposed to maintain public order. According to the FIR, the protesters shouted slogans, delivered speeches against the government and also misused loud speakers, violating the Sound system Regulation Act 2015, reads the FIR.



The police made clear that the protesters had been warned earlier but did not pay heed to the notice given by the officials, and instead indulged in disorderly behaviour, and blocked the main roads for several hours causing disturbance for the general public.

No arrests have been made yet and further investigations are underway.
