HYDERABAD: An Umerkot-based Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader, who faces charges of misbehaving with police officers on May 2, was arrested on Saturday after a court denied him bail.

Nawab Zaid Talpur, nephew of Pakistan People's Party MNA Nawab Yousuf Talpur and cousin of MPA Taimur Talpur, and two other co-accused were arrested outside the Umerkot district and sessions court.

Talpur was booked after a video went viral showing him, accompanied by his son Nawab Hassan Talpur, sitting in the chair of the Umerkot police station SHO Tassawur Jatt, admonishing him for rounding up his supporter.

He was also seen threatening police officers in another video.

SSP Umerkot Usman Bajwa told reporters that investigation officer Vijay Kumar had arrested Talpur and the other two men nominated in the FIR.

Talpur had earlier obtained an interim bail from the Sindh High Court and the Balochistan High Court.

Talpur's son, Hassan Talpur, is also nominated in the FIR.

Earlier, Talpur had claimed that he was falsely implicated in the case.

“What was shown to have transpired at Kunri police station [in Umerkot district on May 2] was just one aspect of the situation,” he said.

“Our political opponents couldn’t tolerate our politics. They are using the police against us. I was trapped in this incident through a conspiracy by the ruling PPP’s local leaders,” he added.
