ISLAMABAD: Media, especially social and other online media, along with educational institutions need to work together for the reformation of society.

This was stated by Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Shahid Siddiqui on Friday during a seminar on the importance of social media, with special reference to e-magazine and its impact on the reformation of society.

Stating that media has emerged as one of the strongest social institutions, Prof Siddiqui said the media and educational institutions should work together in society.

He added that there is a need to adopt a discursive approach for moulding the minds of people to think more positively. In this regard, he said that the role of civil society and the media was quite important for educating people.

Other speakers deliberated on the new trends in media and their impact on the society. They also underlined the importance of social media, in terms of projecting positive thinking, writing and ideas.

Humsub website’s editors Wajhat Masood and Adnan Khan Kakar along with Rozan website’s editor Qasim Yaqub shared their personal experience about operating an e-magazine, its workings and development of a healthy society.

Prominent writer Khurshid Nadeem said that new trends and developments introduced by social media had a profound influence on society and could be an effective tool promoting moral values and healthy traditions.
