One look at the ICC statistics could make anyone realise her worth
KARACHI: The news of Sana Mir’s alleged removal from captaincy of Pakistan’s women’s cricket team is heartbreaking. It is not to say that she and her charges didn’t fall short of a competitive game plan during the ICC Women’s World Cup in England. But this move shows the Pakistan Cricket Board’s shortsightedness in assessing where the problem lies.
Anyone who has even remotely followed the performance of the cricket team will tell you that despite being the youngest and least experienced team on the field, our women in green played their best considering the lack of facilities they are provided with. Given the pressures that come with captaincy and lack of an environment conducive to improvement provided to them in Pakistan, Sana’s performance has been laudable. One look at the ICC statistics could make anyone realise her worth. She ranks 8th in the Women’s ODI Bowlers and has maintained her position in the ICC Top 20 for the past nine years.
