An IT engineer bled to death in Indrayani, India while passers-by clicked pictures and took videos of him instead of coming forward to help on Wednesday.

The 25-year-old, Satish Prabhakar Mete had been riding on a motorcycle when he was hit by an unidentified vehicle. However, no one came forward to help the man as he bled away till after 30 minutes when a dentist, Dr Kirtiraj Kate, finally stopped to help him.

Dr Kate gave CPR to Satish and rushed him to the hospital but it was too late and he was declared dead, the Indian Express reported.

Police said Mete’s motorcycle was hit by a vehicle, which we are yet to identify. "There were some by-standers, but they don’t have any details of the vehicle. We were informed about the incident after Mete was taken to the Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital (YCMH) and declared dead,” senior inspector Bhimrao Shingade of the Bhosari MIDC police station said.

Meanwhile, the doctor who had tried to rescue Satish told Pune Newsline that he had been walking home when he saw a group of people and approached them and tried to help Satish who had "already lost a lot of blood".

He also expressed shock "that the by-standers, instead of taking the injured to the hospital, were clicking photos and taking videos."

Dr Kirtiraj had stopped a rickshaw and taken him to the YCMH hospital, which is about 15 minutes away. "On the way to the hospital, he was breathing for a while… but he was declared dead at the hospital. Had the passers-by helped him in time, he could have been saved,” he said.

Satish's body was handed over to family members after the post-mortem.
