Karachi airport gets a new ‘premium passenger lounge’
Project part of $22 million investments made by Gerry’s dnata

Another passenger lounge has been introduced in Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport for premium passengers of a popular Gulf-headquartered airline.
“I feel like I am at New York’s airport,” Sindh Governor Mohammad Zubair Umar said while addressing a gathering at the lounge’s launch.

“This [marhaba] is one of the best luxury facilities built in Pakistan,” the governor said, advising contractors to maintain its quality for travellers.
Gerry’s dnata, a ground handler of international flights in Pakistan, is the operator of the lounge, part of the $22 million investment the company has made in Pakistan over the last 18 months.
The international network of lounges was first launched in Dubai’s Al Maktoum International Airport in December 1991. Another one was introduced in Bahrain a few years later.
“In keeping with the increasing traffic at Karachi airport, we anticipate serving more than 20,000 customers a year,” Dnata President Gary Chapman said, adding that “as more passengers discover the ease and delight of travelling with our help, we look forward to an even more exciting future.”

Pakistan International Airlines is also operating a less fancy but similar in purpose lounge at Jinnah International Airport for several years.
