Nationalist party's chief arrested in Hyderabad

JSM's Riaz Chandio says he was about to address a press conference against land grabbers affiliated with a minister

HYDERABAD: The chairman of nationalist party Jeay Sindh Mahaz's (JSM) was arrested in Hyderabad on Wednesday.

Riaz Chandio was arrested by officers of the Cant police station outside the Hyderabad Press Club.

He told The Express Tribune that he was on his way to address a press conference against land grabbers.

"A gang of land grabbers with the support of the police tried to occupy a piece of land in a village in Karachi. But one of our party leaders with the support of the local people resisted the attempt," he said.

Chandio maintained that at his in his press conference, he wanted to expose the nexus of the land grabbers affiliated with a provincial minister.

The JSM, a faction of the Jeay Sindh Tehreek of late G M Syed, is a nationalist party which has until now taken a stance away from electoral politics.

However, recently Chandio expressed his willingness to participate in the general elections next year.
