QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Sanaullah Khan Zehri has criticised the role of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) in the Panama case probe, saying that it is involved in misconduct as it overstepped its power and authority.

However, “the final verdict of the Supreme Court will be acceptable to all,” the chief minister said while addressing a press conference at the CM Secretariat on Monday.

“Hue and cry over the Panama issue is irrelevant and senseless until the Supreme Court passes verdict,” he said, adding that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) believes in rule of law and supremacy of Constitution and it will accept the verdict of the apex court.

Hoping the court will provide justice, the CM said that the people of Pakistan had the right to hold leaders and individuals accountable.

Political support: Zehri confident govt will complete term

Favouring PML-N, Zehri said that after the government completes its tenure, people can seek a fresh mandate to rule the country.

He accused opponents of making Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif a target after he successfully conducted nuclear tests and brought about brisk economic activities in the country.

The CM said that he was not in favour of a clash between state institutions as it would harm the fundamental interests of the country and its people.

He claimed that the JIT report was based on ‘bad faith’ and ‘unjust presumption’ and it had exceeded its powers.

JIT appearances: Sharifs set a new precedent, says Zehri

He said that the JIT report was incomplete. “When objections were filed against the nomination of two JIT members Bilal Rasool and Aamir Aziz no action was taken, while the 10th Volume of the JIT report has not yet been made public,” the CM said.

Declaring the objections raised by the prime minister over the JIT report as totally valid, he said the objections should not be ignored.

He said that the PM, his family and all the political allies of the government believe in rule of law and supremacy of the Constitution of Pakistan.

He said he and his colleagues consider the JIT report a conspiracy against the elected prime minister of Pakistan.
