Jade Thirwall isn't Jasmine in Aladdin but some don't think Naomi Scott's fit either

There has been criticism because Scott is of British and Indian background instead of having an Arab heritage

Jade Thirwall has missed out on the role of Jasmine in Guy Ritchie’s live-action remake of Aladdin.

The Little Mix singer was beaten to the punch by Naomi Scott, after over 2,000 auditions, according to Daily Edge.

Thirlwall appeared to make a thinly veiled dig after losing out on her 'dream' role when she shared a Instagram post on Saturday when Disney announced the final cast list.

Insisting she is 'over it', the singer, 24, appeared to make reference to missing out on the opportunity to play the Disney princess.

In the sultry snap, the Shout Out To My Ex hitmaker slipped into a silky blouse and wrapped up with a fuzzy wrap to keep off the chill, Mail Online reported.

The Little Mix bandmate posed up a storm with a pistol, with a message attached to it which was emblazoned with the phrase 'over it'.

The live action adaptation is being directed by Guy Ritchie, but the forthcoming film has not been without its problems in the early planning stages with the director reportedly struggling to find the right actors to star in the film, NME reported.

Aladdin’s leads have now been officially unveiled, with relative newcomer Mena Massoud playing the titular role and Power Rangers star Naomi Scott set to play Jasmine.

However, Disney has faced a backlash from some social media users over Scott’s casting. While Aladdin is set in the fictional country of Agrabah, fans of the film have long held the assumption that it is a country that would be situated in the Middle East – which therefore had previously sparked calls for Disney to cast actors with an Arab heritage.



While Massoud is of Egyptian background, there has been some criticism of Disney’s choice to cast 24-year-old Scott, who is of British and Indian background.

Scott and Massoud will star in Aladdin alongside Will Smith, who will play The Genie – a role that has become synonymous with Robin Williams after the late actor’s star vocal turn in the beloved 1992 animated version.



Scott's mother Usha Scott is from Uganda and is of Gujarati Indian descent. Meanwhile, Naomi's father, Christopher Scott, is British.

She is married to soccer star Jordan Spence, who plays for Ipswich Town Football Club, since 2014. The pair dated for four years before getting married.
