GILGIT:
The Gilgit district administration has decided to setup committees at the village level to quickly resolve disputes.

In this regard, locals who are of good repute and hail from a good background would be included in the dispute resolution committees (DRCs).

This was decided at a high-level meeting presided over by the Gilgit Assistant Commissioner and Sub-Divisional Magistrate Naveed Ahmed on Friday.

In the first phase, the committees at village level would be set up in a sub-division of Gilgit as a pilot before being extended to the rest of the district. A three-member committee has been setup with a mandate to form such committees in all villages within five days and report to the assistant commissioner.

DRC members would be selected by locals in public meetings. It is expected that elders of high repute would be chosen.

All DRCs would meet on the 15th of every month.
