An agricultural spokesman said on Friday that farmers need to be extra careful when taking care of their cotton crop during the monsoons.
He said the crop was at the flowering stage and proper care at this time would guarantee better production.
He cautioned the farmers against unnecessary water application, saying that they should apply water only after proper consultation with the experts.
Experts warn of disease emerging from monsoon rains
They may water the crop after a 15-day interval while keeping in view weather conditions, he said.
In a press conference on Friday, he said that monsoon rains usually begin in July in Punjab during which temperature remains between 35 and 40 Celsius and humidity increases by 50-60%, a factor that affect the crop growth.
Farmers should not leave water stagnant in the field and make arrangements to drain it out, he said.
