Investigation starts into alleged misappropriation of around Rs2 billion public funds in the Mehar Municipal Committee

HYDERABAD: Sindh's Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) has started an investigation into the alleged misappropriation of around Rs2 billion public funds in the Mehar Municipal Committee (MC) in Dadu district. An ACE officer from Jamshoro district has been given the inquiry on the orders of the Anti-Corruption Court, Hyderabad.

The complainants, Shehri Ittehad President Abdul Sattar Channa, councilor Niaz Buriro and two others, alleged that the MC officials embezzled Rs2 billion funds over the last six years.



"Practically, no real development has taken place in the town. Roads are broken, covered with sewage while heaps of garbage have piled up everywhere," Channa said.

The MC chairperson, Riaz Mahesar, chief municipal officer Agha Sumer Pathan and accountant Imran Siyal have been cited as respondents in the case. The court directed ACE, Jamshoro to complete the investigation and submit a report by July 28.

Channa, Buriro and others claimed that they possess evidence of the corruption done by successive officials, which they will present before the inquiry.
