6 actresses who were paid much less than their male counterparts

Gender inequality is everywhere, in Hollywood too!

Gender inequality seems to be on everyone's lips at the moment. But who knew that Hollywood heavy weights and Bollywood biggies would also be subject to the same fate as women in other fields.



These pay gaps are disappointing, but also a little surprising. You would think payment would be fair among these A-listers.

As compiled from the Elite Daily, here is a list of actresses who were paid much less than their male counterparts.

1) Jennifer Lawrence in American Hustle



Yes, can you believe it? This fine, Oscar winner was paid twenty per cent less than her male co-stars. Not only that, the information was unveiled to her through the internet when Sony’s systems got hacked and details about pay rates were made public.

2) Charlize Theron in The Huntsman: Winter's War



Charlize Theron has a captivating camera presence and is brilliant at her job. She too, however, fell victim to the sexist pay scale and was offered much less than her co-star Chris Hemsworth. Theron fought till she found economic equality in the project.

3) Robin Wright in House of Cards

The character of Claire Underwood makes the show a seller single-handedly, and in 2014 it was reported that she was paid $420,000 per episode, which isn't too generous compared to the pay of her counterpart, Kevin Spacy at $500,000.

4) Natalie Portman in No Strings Attached



Sorry to break this dissappointing tidbit regarding one of the best romcoms ever, but Natalie made three times less than Aston Kutcherin the endearing movie. That is outright discrimination. Later in an interview  with Marie Claire, Natalie Portman commented:

 

I wasn't as pissed as I should've been. I mean, we get paid a lot, so it's hard to complain, but the disparity is crazy … Compared to men, in most professions, women make 80 cents to the dollar. In Hollywood, we are making 30 cents to the dollar.

 





5) Angelina Jolie in Mr and Mrs Smith

The 2005 drama action Mr and Mrs Smith marked the end of the power couple Brad Pitt and Jeniffer Aniston, is also infamous for other reasons, like its ridiculous unequal pay rate. Jolie made half as much for the movie as her ex-husband, Brad Pitt and we're pretty sure that both stars had equal footage in the movie.

and... Bollywood is even worse when it comes to gender bias remunerations...

6) Deepika Padukone in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewaani

Now this could not get any more ridiculous! The uber talented Deepika was paid significantly less than Ranbir Kapoor. Given Deepika’s success in Bollywood, we know that this gender disparity is nothing but injustice and absolutely unacceptable.
