#Fontgate: Twitter frenzy as JIT alleges Maryam Nawaz forged documents with Calibri font

Social media reacted to the allegedly fabricated documents fiercely

Twitter was abuzz on Monday as a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) probing offshore assets of the ruling Sharif family submitted its final report to the Supreme Court.

From tweeting points from the JIT report to analysis and predicting the fate of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Twitterati had a field day. It was no surprise then when taking a spin at Panamgate someone came up with #Fontgate to discuss the alleged forging of documents submitted by Maryam Nawaz.

In its report, the JIT concluded that Maryam Nawaz is the real and ultimate beneficial owner of the Avenfield apartments. She never declared the ownership of these overseas properties, submitted fake documents and misled the Supreme Court, concluded the JIT.

A picture from one of the pages of JIT's report made rounds on Twitter stating that the font used on the declaration submitted by Maryam was Calibri, which was not commercially available before January 31, 2007. This ultimately suggests that the submissions were fabricated, thus leaving Twitterati in a frenzy.

You need to understand that when MS come out with a new product, they include compatibility pacts for older versions. They do not release the compatability packs before the new product. The only way out is for sharif family to prove that they were beta testers. Time to ask Bill Gates to send them a letter :)

Mubeen | 7 years ago | Reply To all kids and those who were computer-illiterate till 2007: Calibiri font is plainly not rendered correctly by Microsoft Office version 2003 (and is automatically substituted by replacement/alternate font), not even by the MS Office 2003 updates released during 2004-2007, and not even by the MS Office 2007 compatibility pack for MS Office 2003 that was released in 2007. It can be used ONLY by MS Office versions released in/after 2007. In that era, other Word processing tools, e.g. Star Office, were not using ClearType fonts during this time at all (almost all of them sticking to TrueType fonts)

Even if we give Mariyam benefit of doubt and credit her for using the latest available version to print the trust deed but we cant because she signed the deed in feb 2006 just month before its beta release.

Windows beta releases are only available to a select audience, not the general public. The general public got to use Calibiri font for the first time in 2007. Please bear in mind that this part of the JIT report is based on feedback from a leading British forensics company that will never make such an elementary mistake.
