KARACHI: Dhabeji Special Economic Zone (SEZ) is ready for allotment to investors and Sindh Board of Investment (SBI) has already received commitments from Chinese and local investors, SBI Chairperson Naheed Memon said after a meeting with Chinese officials.
The SEZ is spread over 1,000 acres and is part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Memon also said that pharmaceutical, chemical, steel and textile manufacturing units have so far been planned in the area.
"Dhabeji SEZ would be a model for Pak-China industrial cooperation and would be a big success story for both countries," she re-affirmed, adding that over 100,000 direct and indirect jobs are expected to be created from it.
Highlighting Karachi's importance as a consumer hub, Memon said that the sprawling metropolis will be a major market for goods produced in the Dhabeji SEZ.
