QUETTA: At least two persons were killed and nine injured in a clash between two groups on Wednesday over a piece of land.

The incident took place at Fateh Market on the Jinnah Road.

According to SHO Civil Lines Imranul Haq, the two groups were discussing ways to sort out the land dispute when both sides opened indiscriminate firing.

“As a result, 11 people were injured. Subsequently, two of the injured persons died while they were being treated at the Civil Hospital here,” the SHO said.

Rescue volunteers and a heavy contingent of law-enforcement agencies rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area.

The land in dispute is reportedly owned by Pakhtoonkhuwa Milli Awami Party’s (PkMAP) MPA Manzoor Khan Kakar.

“We were trying to sort out the dispute when the MPA’s brother, Naseer Khan Kakar, ordered his gunmen to start shooting,” Saadullah, one of the injured persons, said.

The injured, three of whom were hurt critically, were later shifted to the Trauma Centre.

Naseer Kakar’s driver told media persons that the discussion was continuing when shots were fired. “I took cover in a nearby shop when they started shooting on our vehicles.”

Police lodged an FIR of the incident and took all wounded persons into custody. “We are investigating and will record statements of those who are still in critical condition,” another police official said.
