Ex-police official shot dead over enmity

CHICHAWATNI: A retired police official was gunned down while his associate was injured by rivals over an old enmity in Iqbal Nagar area of Chichawatni on Wednesday.

Officials said Jehangir Kathia and his associate Zulfiqar Kathia were on their way to Multan to attend a case hearing when members of their rival group Zaheer Kathia, Nasir and Azhar opened indiscriminate fire on them.



As a result, Jehangir Kathia was killed on the spot while Zulfiqar suffered injuries. Rescue officials shifted the body and the injured to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital for treatment.

A police official said the armed suspects managed to escape from the scene. He added the police were conducting raids to arrest the culprits. He maintained the incident took place due to an old enmity between the two rival groups.



Earlier, a station house officer among two policemen was killed in a shooting incident in Faisalabad. The incident took place near General Bus Stand when police signalled a suspected vehicle to pull over. However, unidentified suspects inside the car opened fire on the cops, injuring three police personnel. As a result, Madina Town SHO Nadeem Anjum and Constable Shehzad were killed on the spot.
