A 24-year-old mother from Mexico has died after reportedly taking lethal diet pills sold online called “Avitia Cobrax”.

According to El UniversalLucero Priscila Garza took the tablets for around a month after purchasing them from Facebook, her friends said.

The pills are sold as a ‘natural’ weight loss treatment on numerous websites, including the social media giant.

Following consumption, she fell into coma after reporting severe headaches, and was taken to a nearby hospital where she stopped breathing, the Mexican newspaper said.

The mother of one-year-old, who consumed the pills without taking due advice from a doctor, was in intensive care for six days before her death. She reportedly took the pills to lose the weight she gained during pregnancy.

The health department of Mexican state Nuevo Leon, where Garza lived in the city of Monterrey, has said it will increase vigilance against so-called “miracle products” sold online.

Pages promoting the pills have since been removed from online marketplaces and social media.
