Two sewer men die of suffocation

A third one was hospitalised in Victoria Hospital

BAHAWALPUR: Two sewer men died of suffocation in the jurisdiction of Cantt police station on Tuesday.

A police official told The Express Tribune that three sewer men Danish, Nadeem and their unidentified colleague were cleaning a gutter in Basti Bhaidwaan, Dera Izat when they fainted due to the presence of poisonous gases.

He added soon after the incident, Rescue 1122 officials reached the spot but till then Danish and Nadeem had breathed their last while the third was recovered and shifted to Bahawal Victoria Hospital for treatment. Doctors at the hospital said his condition was critical.

Meanwhile, a man was killed while three were injured when a speedy trailer hit them at Ahmadpur East. Police said Jaleel and his family were riding a motorcycle when they stopped at the site of Ahmadpur East Oil Tanker incident. In the meantime, a speedy trailer hit their two-wheeler and as a result, Jaleel was killed on the spot while Kaneez, Tasleem and Muhammad Umar suffered injuries.

Bus-Truck Collision: Two killed, 11 injured in accident 

The injured were shifted to Bahawal Victoria Hospital for treatment. The police said the driver of the trailer fled the scene. However, the police took custody of the vehicle and registered a case against the accused driver.
