Iran holds 'Trumpism' cartoon contest to mock US president

The contest exhibited 1,614 works, four of which were from American cartoonists

Iranians have organised a 'Trumpism' cartoon contest in which hundreds of participants were invited to submit artwork mocking the US president.

The logo for the contest was based on the Nazi emblem, with a diagonal 'T' in a white circle against a red background. One cartoon showed Trump painting a Hitler-like mustache on the face of the Statue of Liberty.

Organiser Masoud Shojai Tabatabaei told Associated Press that the 'ism' in 'Trumpism' is to point out racism and Nazism. "Many believe his remarks are similar to Hitler. He has had a bad attitude toward media, refugees.

Iran's Hadi Asadi won the first prize a $1,500 award for his artwork which showed Trump wearing a jacket made of dollar bills and drooling. "I wanted to show Trump while trampling symbols of culture,” Asadi said, adding that he sought to highlight the president's "money-mindedness and war mongering nature."

The violence and comments against women and wall building were also depicted in the contest through artwork, which followed last year's Holocaust-themed contest.

The contest, which opened on Monday, exhibits works of 1,614 Iranians and foreign participants from 74 different countries, including four works from American cartoonists themselves, two of which were also awarded.
