Special control rooms to keep eyes peeled for possible floods

These control rooms will operate 24/7 and are connected with Central Police Office, Lahore

LAHORE: Punjab police have decided to set up special control rooms in every district of the province for effective communication during flood emergencies.

Inspector General Punjab Police Usman Khattal issued these instructions in a letter to all districts and regional police officers to prepare for preventive measures during floods. The control rooms will operate 24/7 and will be connected with central police office, Lahore.

Pakistan to set up flood early warning system

The inspector directed the field officers to depute vigilant staff at the special rooms, to not only monitor emergency situations but also communicate on immediate basis to the CPO and concerned police officials. He further directed the field officers to review the arrangements made for floods in person and visit local administrations, irrigation departments and flood relief crisis management for liaison.

Usman asked them to focus on security of important installations, relief camps, law and order and property of citizens. He emphasized on maintaining the flow of traffic on roads and utilising all available resources for the purpose.

Meanwhile, in its press release, the Pakistan Meteorological Department advised all departments concerned to remain alert as heavy rains might generate flash floods in vulnerable areas, particularly those lying around storm drains in K-P, Pothohar, Gujranwala, DG Khan and Kashmir.

CM orders preventive measures against floods

Recent predictions further confirmed that weather patterns were most likely to remain unusual and in some cases extreme, displaying extreme patterns such as causing flash floods in northern Punjab and K-P.
