Eidul Fitr will be celebrated in Pakistan on Monday as Shawwal moon was sighted in the country, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee has announced.

The committee chairman, Mufti Muneebur Rehman announced the decision after it met in Islamabad.

The meeting was originally scheduled for Peshawar to end the moon-sighting controversy but the decision was reviewed as Eid was celebrated in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Sunday.

The federal and provincial governments had made numerous efforts to observe Eid across Pakistan simultaneously but to no avail.

The federal government has already announced Eid holidays from Monday, June 26 to Wednesday, June 28.
