RMU vice chancellor proposes 10 names for syndicate member

Leaves three slots open for Punjab government to propose names

RAWALPINDI: The vice chancellor of the Rawalpindi Medical University (RMU) has proposed names for syndicate members of the varsity so that official matters of the facility can continue smoothly.

A senior doctor associated with RMU said that VC Dr Muhammad Umer had sent his nominations to the Punjab government for approval around three weeks ago. However, a final decision on Dr Umer’s proposal was yet to be taken.

Dr Umer has recommended appointing Punjab assembly members Lubna Rehan and Zaibunnisa Awan on the special seats in the syndicate.

The government has to appoint three MPs from the Punjab assembly, at least two of them are supposed to be women - preferably who are expert in the medical profession.

Dr Umer, however, left the third seat to the discretion of the Punjab government.

The vice chancellor of the recently established RMU had further nominated Dr Musadaq Khan, the former principal of Rawalpindi Medical College. Moreover, Dr Bushra Khan, a former professor of medicine at the RMC, was also nominated.

The Punjab government would also have to nominate two financial experts or bankers as members of the syndicate.

In this regards, Dr Umer has recommended the name of Tariq Sadiq, a banker. He has asked the government to propose the name of the other financial expert.

As far as the names of two civil society members are concerned, Dr Umer has recommended three names for the slots. These include RMC board’s former chairman Dr Muhammad Aslam, and former board members of RMC Dr Saqib Abbasi, and Khalil Ahmed Noon.

For the slots of two members from private and public universities, the RMU vice chancellor has proposed the names of Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi Vice Chancellor Professor Muhammad Niaz, and Shifa Tameer – Millat University Islamabad Vice Chancellor Professor Muhammad Iqbal.
