Disorder and chaos at DHQ hospital

Hospital in Zhob caters to two areas, said to be taken over by miscreants

ZHOB, BALOCHISTAN: Overall, the health department in Balochistan is in a shambolic state due to myriad reasons, such as absence of doctors, incompetent staff and unbridled corruption. DHQ hospital Zhob is one of the operational hospitals in the province. But it faces numerous problems.

There is only one lady doctor and to add insult to injury, she doesn’t come to the hospital to perform her duties. The hospital has allegedly been taken over by miscreants and theft of expensive hospital equipment has been reported time and again. Last year, the solar panels were stolen and two years ago important laboratory equipment went missing. The inquiry ordered on the matter has not come to any conclusion hitherto. And those responsible for such malpractices are said to be part of the hospital staff.

What’s more worrisome is the fact that the current administrative head of the hospital is the most junior doctor who is at the helm of three different offices at the same time. This has resulted in creating administrative loopholes in the setup. Why hasn’t the health ministry been able to find competitive and experienced persons for key positions?

It is high time that the health ministry of Balochistan and other departments concerned looked into this matter and understood the problems considering that the hospital shares the burden of catering to two districts, Zhob and Sherani.
