MULTAN: In a bid to facilitate children suffering from thalassemia, a three-day campaign ‘Toy Bank’ was launched by a local non-government organisation in Multan on Wednesday. The aim of the initiative was to distribute toys among the children suffering from thalassemia.

The campaign was launched with the joint efforts of NGO Care and Cure and Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Care and Cure CEO Azhar Mahmood Sheikh said the aim of the campaign was to share happiness of Eid with thalassemia patients.

He maintained, “Children of all ages have a special bonding regardless of colour, religion or race. Under this campaign, healthy children will donate the toys to those children who need blood transfusion.”

Mahmood elaborated that the campaign had two objectives: To develop attitude of sharing and caring among the children and to spread smiles on the faces of thalassemia patients.

While speaking to The Express Tribune, a patient’s father Murtaza said, “My three-year-old daughter is suffering from thalassemia and it is very difficult for us to manage the process of blood transfusion.” He added, “To lessen the pain and to divert her mind, we give her toys to play till the completion of blood transfusion.”

He pointed out the initiative will help many poor children, who cannot afford to buy toys for their suffering children.
