PCB announces squad for West Indies tour

Umer Gul, Younus Khan, Kamran Akmal and Abdul Razzaq dropped from the team.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) selection committee on Wednesday announced the 16-member squad for the tour of West Indies.

According to a press release issued by the PCB, Shahid Afridi has been retained as captain for the Twenty20 and ODI matches while Misbahul Haq will captain the Test squad.

Umer Gul, Younus Khan, Kamran Akmal and Abdul Razzaq were dropped from the team.

According to sources, Umer Gul is likely to be called in for the Test matches.

Wicket-keeper Muhammad Salman has been picked for the squad, while Usman Salahuddin and Aizaz Cheema have also been included in the team for the first time.

Other players in the squad include Ahmed Shahzad, Tanveer Ahmed, Muhammad Hafeez, Asad Shafiq, Taufeeq Umer, Umer Akmal, Abdur Rehman, Saeed Ajmal, Wahab Riaz, Junaid Khan and Hammad Azam.

SHAHID NOOR | 13 years ago | Reply HI, i am totally upset about this team. misbah ul haq should be kick out from the pak team. because he is playing for himself he is not playing for the pakistan. shahid afridi is good captain.and we expecting more affords from him.and where is fast bowler in this team.they should give a chance to sohil tanveer.

FARMAN ALI | 13 years ago | Reply I dont understand why Misbah is playing. on what basis is he there in the team.even the selectors are not capable of ther job as a selector. due to misbah we lost to world cups and lost it both to India. he should at least learn how to bat in situation and must learn from his sons like Rain and Kohli.......he is such a waist.

Babrik | 13 years ago | Reply I think Misbah should have been dropped from the team and replaced with Shoaib Malik who has more experience, is younger, and is also in great form in domestic cricket. I believe dropping Umar Gul was not a good decision as it would hurt his confidence as a match-winning bowler. One bad match should not be enough to cast out a bowler of Gul's calibre.

Javed Sani. | 13 years ago | Reply The selection team is good but I would like to point out why we lost the semifinal match against India Its because of Shahid Afridi's three glaring mistakes 1) When in the second over of Gul was hit for 21 runs he should have been taken off at once but he was given two more overs in which many runs were given away.2) Shohiab Akther should have been in the side,he is still the fastest bowler in Pakistan.3)The batting order was not correct.The match was lost when 4 chances were given to Tendulkar their best batsmen,Please select the players on Merit and not on personal liking or personal gain Give Fielding practise in a proper way and Catching both at Slips and outer field.Then only Pakistan can improve and be the beat team in the world.They have allthe Potentsional. Raj | 13 years ago | Reply To me majority are no-name brands. Hopefully one of them will be a star like Imran Khan. Remember the 1989 Indian team that toured Pakistan. It had Sachin Tendulkar, Sanjay Manjrekar and Vivek Razdan. I am hoping a Pakistani " Sachin Tendulkar" in the making.

If we want to groom youngsters then what is need of Misbah as he is of 37. I think this is not fair. In place of Misbah a youngster should be given a chance.

Syed Raza | 13 years ago | Reply I think team announced by the selection committee is totaly based on compromises because no any significant youngsters except Hammad Azam, Usman Salahuddin and Junaid Khan were included in the side Ahmed Shehzad have failed to perform Tanvir Ahmed Mohammad Suleman and Aizaz Cheema have gone past their prime time, inclusion of Misbah is also strange both Misbah and Younis should have retired from ODIs, Bastsman like Fawad Alam and Azhar Ali should be in the side as both of them take time at creez and take single, doubles to rotate the strike they are more agile, fit and younger can perform as longer as they can, both should have been in the word cup squad also, both are very good fielders as well, in wicket keeping department Sarfraz Ahmed may be better choice rather than Mohammad Suleman.....in fast bowling department Sohail Khan should given preference on Aizaz Cheema as he is quick can be proved his worth in the absence of Shouaib Akhtar,

Tirmizi | 13 years ago | Reply I think Yousuf should have been picked up. I hope he will be there in the team for test matches. He is Pakistan's number one batsman at this time. Taufiiq Umer is only suitable for 5 day matches. Imran Nazir once again has been neglected which is ununderstandable. To build a winning team, its selection should be strictly on merit and for this purpose a man like Abdul Qadir should be made chief selector. The present selectors appear to be incapable for the job.

I agree that his performance was disappointing in semi final but we should keep in mind that he is a great test player who proved his worth against South Africa and New Zealand.We should not be emotional to this extent.

pardesi | 13 years ago | Reply If this team has been put together as a result of learning from the world cup and also to give youngsters a chance than its a good omen and good luck to the team. But should we just lay blame on the senior players or players like Omar Gul for not performing. Not in my opinion. In the face of the disappointment of losing semi finals the whole cricket organization should be looked at. And in my opinion we need to lay off or simply sack some more seniors in the cricket board itself and in this list includes Mohsin Khan chief selector time may have come for some younger blood to come in who has no emotional attachment to the cricket board or behaves like some ones crony. Ijaz Butt who treated the senior players badly showed no respect to them or their knowledge or capabilities. Ijaz Butt has his favorites, and no team can be selected without his consent him and his favorites should be sacked. Surely than we will be able to improve our standings. Don't rest the senior players sack the seniors in the board and let young blood come in to run the show.

The selection of Taufeeq Umar, MisbaH ul Haq,Tanvir Ahmed,Aizaz Cheema,Mohammed Salman is questionable. They are too old for this version of the game. Mohammad Hafeez(He is 20/30 run player, he threw away his wicket by playing silly shots.) Ahmed Shahzad(He deserve one and last chance since he is in-experiance where as the old horses gets lot of chances) Taufiq Umar( I cannot find the logic behind his selection for ODI and T20, may be because Kamran is not in the team to open the innings.They should have gone for young gun like NASIR JAMSHED. Usman Salahuddin(Good selection) Asad Shafiq, Umar Akmal, Abdul Rehman, Saeed Ajmal,Wahab Riaz, Junaid Khan are deserved to be retained. Hammad Azam(Deserve a place) They could have selected players like Khalid Lathif (He deserve one more chance) Naved Yasin as specialist batsmen and Mohammed Talha and Uzair-ul Haq as fast bowlers. They could have selected young wicket Keeper some one like Adnan Akmal. Please do not bring aging players.Give chances to young players.This is my message to Mosin Khan,Ejaz Bhut and tea. Just lokk at Indian team and players like Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina and Aswin.They all young guns and developed very well in IPL. Do no play Yunus khan, Misbah,Taufeeq umar,Tanveer Ahmed in ODI,T20. They are stiil a force in Test matches.

Why not give youngsters a chance Sarmad Bhatti,Anwer Ali build for 2015 world cup it is the same rubbish corrupt selectors in PCB, Why is Fawad Alam not in team, Sarfraz Ahmed should be keeper not Salman.

Al | 13 years ago | Reply It's nice that they've included Usman Salhuddin in the squad after he has been cnsistently perfoming well in the domestic circuit. I like the approach by the PCB, we do need too groom new young crickers. My only concern is that they might ave gone too heavy on youngsters but let's just see what happens.

Amer | 13 years ago | Reply This is a good team but I think they should keep someone else in mind for the test captaincy otherwise we will never be able to improve our test ranking. I always seems like the selectors are happy with Pakistan being a 6th or 7th place test nation when we have enormous talent. We need a test captain who can unite a test team and build a squad that challenges the top teams in the world and doesn't think of drawing every match.

udai Pandey | 13 years ago | Reply Team is good but in my opinion in place of Misbahul haq some younger player shall be groomed for captaincy if Pakistan has to climb to the top once again. Misbah is now spent force and may last for a year or two. his defensie approach will not go down well for the team
