Muslim countries can contribute towards global peace: Erdogan

In meeting with Gen Qamar Turkish president acknowledges Pakistan’s sacrifices in fight against terrorism, militancy

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Muslim countries can contribute towards global peace and stability, a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

"Islamic countries can contribute immensely towards global peace and stability and OIC [Organisation of Islamic Conference] offers a platform to do that through conflict resolution and dialogue,” Erdogan remarked during a meeting with Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Wednesday.

The army chief, who is on an official visit to Turkey, thanked the president for his perennial support to Pakistan and its role in bringing peace and stability in the region,

 

President Erdogan acknowledged sacrifices made by Pakistan and contributions by Pakistan Army in fight against terrorism and militancy.

According to the military’s media wing, matters of mutual interest and regional security were also discussed.

He went on to say that Pakistan plays a very important role towards that end and multi-faceted cooperation between the two brotherly countries will have a positive influence.

The two noted that Turkey and Pakistan can always count on each other's unconditional and sincere support.

Army chief, defence minister discuss security cooperation

Earlier in the day, Gen Qamar called on Turkey’s Defence Minister Fikri Isik and discussed matters related to regional situation and bilateral security cooperation.



According to the ISPR, the two agreed upon the tremendous potential for cooperation in the fields of security policies, defence production and human resource training.

Ambassador of Pakistan to Turkey Sohail Mahmood was also present during the meeting.

Earlier, Gen Qamar visited Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) and was briefed about the projects being undertaken by TAI in both military and civil aviation industry.

TAI has developed particular expertise in helicopters and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). He also visited the facility and took an introductory flight in T129 attack helicopter.

Speaking on the occasion, the COAS appreciated the indigenous technical prowess achieved by Turkey.

“Pakistan has great technological and industrial potential which open the scope for very meaningful defence cooperation between the two countries,” he added.
